The Boy Scouts Will be Changing Their Name for the First Time in 108 Years

Is this because of political correctness, or is this an act of moving forward?

The Boy Scouts will be allowing girls to join their program.  Therefore, the group can’t exactly be called ‘Boy Scouts’ anymore.  Instead, they will known as ‘Scouts BSA’.  The change will take effect next February.

The Chief Scout Executive (Mike Surbaugh) said many names were considered during the lengthy and “incredibly fun” deliberations: We wanted to land on something that evokes the past but also conveys the inclusive nature of the program going forward.”

So far, over 3,000 girls have signed up to join ‘Scouts BSA’.  The Cub Scouts will remain the same, and the parent organization will still be The Boy Scouts of America.
