Plans for a Wawa in Charlottesville are Becoming a Reality

By:  Tom Morgan

This is the greatest news I’ve heard in quite some time.

I spent five years living in South Jersey before coming back to Virginia, and in South Jersey Wawa is KING! The coffee is amazing, the food is great, and it’ll be one of the best new stores opening in Charlottesville.   Granted, I’m being a little biased here because I’ve been going through Wawa coffee withdrawal for quite some time.  This isn’t exactly your typical ‘convenience store’ so If you’ve never experienced Wawa, you’re in for a treat.

According to NBC 29,  The plan is build a wawa at the intersection of Route 29 and Proffit Road in Albemarle County.

Members of Wawa’s team met with the Albemarle County Architectural Review Board (ARB) Monday, March 19, to work through a few issues.

The ARB asked the company to look into switching which way the store would face and also reducing the proposed size for the gas canopy.

Wawa’s current plans exceed county height and size regulations.

The company argues the extra space is needed to make the store efficient and safe for customers.  An updated plan will be presented at the next meeting.
