This could the oldest trick in the book, and yet it’s just now catching on and it’s quite dangerous.
The ‘Can You Hear Me?’ phone scam has hit the state of Virginia, as well as Pennsylvania and Florida. Basically a scammer calls you and simply asks ‘Can You Hear Me?’, once you say yes (and that’s what we normally do), they hang up on you. You’re then officially a victim of a scam.
According to KTLA, Scammers record your “yes” response. Criminals then may pretend to be from a cruise line or home security company and will later bill you for products or services you never asked for.
If you try to deny the charges, the scammers will play back your verbal confirmation “yes” and threaten to take legal action if you don’t pay.
